Whale Watching

The United States has plenty of shore facing the world’s oceans, making its coasts popular for people coming and going all over the world. Those ports aren’t just for people traveling to faraway locations either; a growing number of people contract small boats or join big tours to go whale watching.

The east and west coast are both popular points of launch for people old and young who want to go see the world’s biggest animals. When going on a trip to see something big though, it only seems appropriate to start your trip in Los Angeles, the biggest city in the United States and about as far west as you can go there.

LA and San Francisco are both good choices for a place to set up while you are on vacation. The bay is nearby and access to the ocean could be as easy as a short walk or a ride on a fast enough train if you end up staying further inland. Being two of the biggest cities in the United States means there will be plenty to do besides watching for some whales. While you are not bobbing about on a boat, there are amusement parks, libraries, museums, stadiums and more places a visitor might enjoy, well, visiting. Take advantage of your time in this bustling metropolis and see what life is like in a big city, a really big city.

Because of its location and population, Los Angeles has so many hotels it is difficult to pick any single one to stay at during your getaway. If you want to sleep on the cheap you could stay at the Goldstar Inn. It’s got a decent rank on Tripadvisor and it doesn’t cost quite £25 a night to stay, making a whole week affordable enough. It’s a little colder than usual but the winters in California are mild so now is a fine time to visit Los Angeles or San Francisco. Both cities are sure to be cool in the evenings but still warm during the days.

Whether you are staying in Log Angeles or San Francisco, good food is going to be as close as the nearest phone book. However, the Casa Sanchez in LA and the Kokkari Estiatorio in San Francisco are great spots to get delicious and affordable Spanish and Greek food, respectively. A meal at either place might set you back as much as £50 but filling, cheaper selections are certainly available. If you are smart, you’ll check out the catering available on board before you commit to any whale watching vessel. There’s no law saying you can’t bring food from back on the mainland but if you are not going to eat it right away it rather seems like a waste.
